What are the structural characteristics of J1939 to OBD2 cable

Analysis of the structural characteristics of J1939 to OBD2 cable

The J1939 to OBD2 cable is a key component in the field of commercial vehicle diagnosis and data acquisition, and its structural design integrates the dual characteristics of industrial communication protocols and automotive electronic interfaces. The cable achieves seamless integration between J1939 protocol (heavy-duty truck standard) and OBD2 interface (passenger car universal diagnostic interface) through collaborative optimization of physical and electrical layers. Its core structural characteristics can be summarized into the following three aspects:

1、 Differentiated adaptation of physical interfaces

The J1939 end adopts a 9-core connector, which complies with the SAE J1939-13 standard,. The OBD2 end adopts a 16 pin interface, which meets the corresponding standards, and ensures a stable connection with the vehicle diagnostic seat through a snap on fixed design. Some high-end products adopt a Y-shaped branching structure, which retains the original J1939 interface while adding OBD2 to achieve parallel connection between diagnostic equipment and the original ECU.

2、 Protocol conversion mechanism of electrical layer

The internal integrated protocol conversion chip of the cable can parse the 29 bit extended CAN identifier (including 24 bit PGN parameter group number) of J1939 and map it to the PID (parameter identifier) system of OBD2.

3、 Reliability Design of Materials and Processes

The connector terminals are made of high-quality technology and have improved oxidation resistance compared to ordinary copper materials. The outer layer of the cable is made of flame-retardant PA66 material.

The structural design of this cable fully reflects the stringent requirements of commercial vehicle communication. Its protocol conversion accuracy, environmental adaptability, and connection reliability have become important basic components for fleet management, emission monitoring, and fault diagnosis system integration.
