Application scenarios of J1939 9-pin to J1708 6-pin cable in commercial vehicle maintenance and renovation

In the scenario of commercial vehicle maintenance and upgrading, J1939 9-pin to J1708 6-pin cable has become the core component for solving the problem of connecting old and new equipment due to its protocol compatibility and installation convenience. The main application scenarios include the following three categories:

One is the scenario of ECU upgrade for old car models. Some commercial vehicles produced after 2000 still use J1708 protocol ECUs. When upgrading to a new type of ECU using J1939 protocol, the new ECU can communicate with the original J1708 protocol instrument panel and diagnostic instrument through this cable, without the need to replace the entire equipment, greatly reducing the upgrade cost.

The second is the scenario of connecting fault diagnosis equipment. The current mainstream commercial vehicle diagnostic instruments mostly support the J1939 protocol, while some old maintenance equipment is only compatible with the J1708 protocol. The third is the scenario of expanding the functions of modified cars. When installing intelligent devices such as GPS positioning and remote monitoring on commercial vehicles, if the new device uses J1939 protocol and the original vehicle control system uses J1708 protocol, this cable can achieve data exchange between the two, ensuring that the new functions work together with the original vehicle system and meet the compliance requirements of the modification.
