How to troubleshoot and solve the  faults of J1939 cable

During long-term use, J1939 cables are susceptible to factors such as vibration, wear, and environmental erosion, which can lead to sheath damage, shielding layer failure, conductor breakage, loose joints, and other faults, resulting in signal transmission interruption, data loss, and increased bit error rate, affecting the normal operation of the equipment. Mastering common faults and troubleshooting methods can quickly locate problems, handle them in a timely manner, and reduce equipment downtime.

Common fault 1: Damaged sheath and exposed shielding layer. Mostly caused by mechanical friction, compression, mouse bites, etc., it manifests as severe signal interference and increased bit error rate. Troubleshooting method: Visually inspect the appearance of the cable, focusing on areas with frequent bending, near joints, and in contact with metal components. If damage is found, replace the cable and install a protective cover to prevent further damage.

Common Fault 2: Conductor breakage or poor contact. Often caused by excessive stretching, bending, or loose joints, manifested as communication interruption and inability to control equipment properly. Troubleshooting method: Use a multimeter to measure the continuity of the conductor and locate the point of disconnection; Check if the joint is loose, tighten the joint again, and replace it if it corrodes.

Common fault three: shielding layer failure. Manifested as decreased anti-interference ability and unstable signal. Need to replace the cable or repair the shielding layer.
